Remington Lofts on the Canal
January 5, 2010: The expansive site of 184
Sweeney Street, North Tonawanda, previously the home of
The Remington Rand Co., consists of four stories that
cover a total of just under 180,000 square feet. A historical
building built between 1899 and 1920, the exterior facade
will be restored to replicate its original grandeur from
the industrial revolution, and interior details such as
the original fluted columns will be maintained.
Despite its manufacturing origins, the size and location
of this structure, along with its panoramic views overlooking
the Canal, make it an ideal destination. When complete,
the building will be converted into a mixed-use facility;
housing both commercial and residential space. The project
will include a beauty salon and school, a yoga and fitness
center, and a top restaurant, which will be located in
the 1895 power house situated to the right of the main
building. In addition, 80 lofts will range from 900 to
over 1650 square feet in size. The residential units will
offer both one to two bedrooms, each with one and a half
to two and a half baths respectively, and will boast 14
feet high floor-to-ceiling windows, hardwood floors, energy
efficient appliances, and custom kitchen cabinetry. Also
available to residents will be; 24hr security, a residential
concierge service, a ground floor indoor parking garage,
and a landscaped rooftop garden.
The project will be completed in phases; beginning with
the commercial units, indoor parking facility, and a total
of 18 units over the three floors. Phase II will include
the remaining units on the second, third, and fourth floors,
as well as the construction of a rooftop garden for residents
to enjoy from late spring through early fall.
